HAPPY NEW YEAR

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Well, I thought that I would get in early, as I will probably be asleep when the clock ticks over in out time zone. However, I should be awake when the United Kingdom celebrates.

Ezekiel 36:26 (Message)
I'll give you a new heart, put a new spirit in you. I'll remove the stone heart from your body and replace it with a heart that's God-willed, not self-willed
.

Perhaps those who would commence the New Year with a new resolution should seek the fulfilment of this verse in their lives.

LIVING WORD

John 6:47-48 (Message)
"I'm telling you the most solemn and sober truth now: Whoever believes in me has real life, eternal life. I am the Bread of Life.

The living Word is sufficient for you. Eat it. Devour it. It is the Word of God.
Smith Wigglesworth

Thank you, Jesus, for birthing Your Word in me that I might live by, and feed upon Your Word continually. Amen.

ANYWHERE

Ephes. 6:18 (Message)
In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare. Pray hard and long. Pray for your brothers and sisters. Keep your eyes open. Keep each other's spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out.

Pray anywhere and everywhere.
Smith Wigglesworth

Father God, grant me the boldness to transform any place I am into an occasion for prayer. Amen.

IN COMMUNITY

As an officer moving from appointment to appointment every few years, I will not have the opportunity to me a life member of a cricket club. There are, however, acknowledgements along the way that are amazing. It is important to be a person of worth in community, other than being an Officer of The Salvation Army.
Three Cricket Club's ago, I was presented with a Bat signed by the 1998 England Test Team. The small plate below the bat reads; Brian Rowe in appreciation for your service to the Torrens Valley Cricket Club.
We do not seek accolades, but we do want to be God's people in community!
Acts 8:25 (Message)
And with that, the apostles were on their way, continuing to witness and spread the Message of God's salvation, preaching in every Samaritan town they passed through on their return to Jerusalem.

RECEIVE

Psalm 107:20 (Message)
He [God] spoke the word that healed you, that pulled you back from the brink of death.

The Word of God does not need to be prayed about: The Word of God has to be received.
Smith Wigglesworth

Lord, grant me the strength and boldness to stand firm on Your Word, receiving Your Word for all my needs. Amen.

POSITIVE

Heading into the New Year with a positive attitude.

Ephes. 6:11 (Message)

So take everything the Master has set out for you, well-made weapons of the best materials. And put them to use so you will be able to stand up to everything the Devil throws your way.

GIFTS THAT KEEP GIVING

GIFTS THAT KEEP GIVING.

The Leaders of the Corps decided that the Christmas Day Service offering would be for Bricks to build a Medical College. The offering total to date is $480, which may be added to as some have indicated that they wish to contribute.

At the Chikankata Hospital they are endeavouring to expand their Medical College. Trained medical Staff are urgently needed but also the College needs to be bigger to accommodate the country’s required accreditation standard.

Esther 9:21-22 (Message)
. . . calling for an annual celebration on the fourteenth and fifteenth days of Adar as the occasion when Jews got relief from their enemies, the month in which their sorrow turned to joy, mourning somersaulted into a holiday for parties and fun and laughter, the sending and receiving of presents and of giving gifts to the poor.

BOXING DAY

Boxing Day Cricket.

Australia V India. Australia won the toss and elected to bat. At teatime Australia is 3 for 213.
The only interruption to watching the cricket game is by eating another big meal, and drinking lots of coffee and soft drink. This is a good way to rest, after the demands leading up to Christmas.

CHRISTMAS DAY

Christmas is here!

Worship this morning was a Church Family time, as we had visitors from three other local fellowships who did not have a Christmas Day Service. I managed to get one of the visitors to do a reading from Isaiah, to help them feel welcome.

Christmas lunch was filling as usual, meat and 9 vegetables. Finished with a small plum pudding with cream, and brewed coffee to finish.

I managed to surprise my wife with a gift that was hidden in the open for over a week. This was the best part of our gifts.

Isaiah 9:6-7 (KJV)
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

PAUL WASHER

Here is a link to a message from Paul Washer.
The message is 59min. but well worth the time.
Let us all examine ourselves!

WITH LOVE

To all the readers of this blog,

I trust that this Christmas will be a very blessed time with family and friends.
It is also a time to remember and celebrate, as we remember our family and friends who are now with the Lord.
Thank you Lord, for all the people who have helped shape our lives.
Thank you Lord, for your gift of life. Amen.

Psalm 63:3 (Message)
In your generous love I am really living at last!
My lips brim praises like fountains.

Examine

Look around you, what do you see?

An examination of your environment can be of tremendous value as you integrate where you live. Our desire and aim is to represent the present nature of Jesus in the community where we live. There are times when we will be amazed at the examination of life before our eyes.
The life of Jesus represented in the gospels is one of a total awareness of the surrounding culture, moods, and possibilities.

What is happening?
How can I relate in this scenario?
What are the possibilities?

1 John 4:1 (Message) My dear friends, don't believe everything you hear. Carefully weigh and examine what people tell you. Not everyone who talks about God comes from God. There are a lot of lying preachers loose in the world.

OUR BABY

Well! here is our baby, when she moved into her new unit.
Acts 2:1-2 (Message)
When the Feast of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Without warning there was a sound like a strong wind, gale force—no one could tell where it came from. It filled the whole building.

SUNDAY'S SCENE

The scene for Sunday, has a person added and some gifts.

Matthew 2:11 (Message)
They entered the house and saw the child in the arms of Mary, his mother. Overcome, they kneeled and worshiped him. Then they opened their luggage and presented gifts: gold, frankincense, myrrh.

THE MESSIAH

As we read the events of the birth of Jesus, the Messiah, we can only be utterly amazed! The Magi arrived to pay homage to the new King of the Jews. Were these men involved in occult practices? Certainly they were not from the normal worshiping community of the Jews.
The Magi on arrival in Jerusalem, enquired of the people of Jerusalem, where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? Predator King Herod, on hearing of the inquiry, was greatly disturbed at the possible threat to his throne. He then had a summit of all the past and present Priests and Teachers of the Law. The clever, cunning, of King Herod is seen in the question for the summit to ponder; Where the Christ was to be born? Without acknowledging there was a new king, Herod sought out where to look for any threat to his rule. The Summit deduced from Scripture that the Messiah King would be born in Bethlehem, in Judea.
So, here we have it, a predator and also occult practitioners seeking out the Messiah, while the people who knew most about the Messiah were living in total ignorance, and totally absorbed with their every day life.

Micah 5:2 (Message)
But you, Bethlehem, David's country,
the runt of the litter—
From you will come the leader
who will shepherd-rule Israel.
He'll be no upstart, no pretender.
His family tree is ancient and distinguished.

Christmas In Australia

Our Corps Newsletter contained the following from one of the Soldiers.

CHRISTMAS IN AUSTRALIA

In our lovely golden land
Fringed by sand and surf and sea,
Wide open plains, cool gullies, deep,
Mountain tops of mystery.

This is our home, Australia –
And we long for it to be
A land where Christ is worshipped
In truth, and joyously.

We pray that, at this Christmas time,
Through tinsel, noise and fuss,
We clearly hear the Gospel news,
Christ lived and died for us.

Lived and died, and rose again,
Our living Lord to be.
Oh, may our land, Australia,
Worship His Majesty.

John 3:16 (Message)
"This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life.

CAROLS & CRICKET

Last night we went to the Shopping Centre to play Carols. We were invited by the Shopping Centre Management, which has not happened for a few years. It was a good time and many people stopped for a few carols.
Two of our people gave out over a hundred and sixty, 2008 Calenders with an invitation to Sunday 23rd and Christmas Day.

This was another great opportunity to make Connections!

Luke 2:14 (Message)
Glory to God in the heavenly heights,
Peace to all men and women on earth who please him.

Today I played cricket. We fielded first, and did so through a few misty showers of rain. Sadly not enough rain to wet the ground, but plenty to keep the blades of grass wet. Our ball was a bit like a cake of soap, nice and slippery. We dismissed the opposition for 142. I was in my usual opening position, and was run out for 19, the third dismissal and we were 3 for 60. We passed their score with four over’s remaining and only loosing another two batsman. Our Captain was pleased with the whole day’s effort by the team.

Hebrews 12:1 (Message) Do you see what this means—all these pioneers who blazed the way, all these veterans cheering us on? It means we'd better get on with it. Strip down, start running—and never quit! No extra spiritual fat, no parasitic sins.

FEEDBACK

Feedback from the inmates at the Prison has been great. The Salvo Chaplain has had reports from the Uniting Church Chaplain, along with the comments from the inmates, and even a letter of appreciation from an inmate.

All the comments have been of appreciation, and thanks, not just for the gifts, but also for the Carols.

This was a great opportunity to make Connections!

THE BIRTH

Are you amazed at the events of the birth?

For us, we had been married for thirteen years before our daughter was born. I remember the events of that birth intimately. It began on Tuesday with a visit to the specialist, who felt that the birth was imminent. In the evening we had Bible Study at the Quarters, and Billie was there, who happened to be the Director of Nursing at the Regional Hospital. She asked if (we) were in labour. Bible study was unhurried with supper afterwards. The husband of one of the ladies present arrived to collect his wife, only to find that his car would not restart, and he was parked behind our car. After waiting an appropriate time his car started, and the Quarters emptied.
Now lets grab some things and go to the hospital, not urgent but I think we should be there!
I won’t bore you with the journey through the night, except I have never seen anyone suck in as much oxygen!
Billie arrived at work very early and called straight into the Maternity Unit, to see if we were there. The Specialist arrived and said he was waiting up all night for a phone call, and he was there to deliver another baby by C/section. Things then moved quickly, the lady who had been prepped for theatre was wheeled back to her room, and (we) took her place. Boy! She was surprised when she woke up to find that she was having her baby the next day!
For us, it was a 10lb 2oz girl, named ~ The Gladness of the Palm Tree is Heavenly. Better known as; Letitia Tamara Celeste, or just Tish.

Matthew 1:20-21 (Message)
While he was trying to figure a way out, he had a dream. God's angel spoke in the dream: "Joseph, son of David, don't hesitate to get married. Mary's pregnancy is Spirit-conceived. God's Holy Spirit has made her pregnant. She will bring a son to birth, and when she does, you, Joseph, will name him Jesus—'God saves'—because he will save his people from their sins."

PRISON

Last night the band went to prison and they did not keep any of them. It was a great night!
We had freedom to move around the prison, as the inmates were in lockdown. The major benefit was that, rather than a few coming to a chapel service, we were able to visit their (homes) courtyards and play some carols. The reception from the inmates was fantastic, and we were able to dialogue with them through their windows, and doors.
This was the end of a big day for the Salvo Chaplain who had given out the Christmas Presents, and capped it off with the carols.

Luke 2:16-18 (Message)
They left, running, and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in the manger. Seeing was believing. They told everyone they met what the angels had said about this child. All who heard the sheepherders were impressed.

GENEROSITY

The last couple of days have shown the generosity of people from the community. A man from our Court, dropped in to the Quarters with three boxes of goodies for Christmas, also a Rotary Club has donated thirty Christmas Puddings. Both of these will be of great value when the Christmas Cheer Parcels are put together.
It is truly amazing to see the generosity of people, who support our work with people in the community. The Lord brings people together in a celebration of his birth, even today.
Philippians 3:17. (JB Phillips)
Let me be your example here, my brothers: let my example be the standard by which you can tell who are the genuine Christians among those about you.

CAROLS

Today the Corps had two carolling engagements. The first was at the Sunday Market, and the second was at a Nursing Home. At both places the carols were received well. Although the band had some issue with dust at the first.

The resounding prayer this season is, ‘let earth receive her King!’

Tuesday we go to Prison, and Friday to the Shopping Centre. These should be good times also.

Matthew 1:21 (Message)
She will bring a son to birth, and when she does, you, Joseph, will name him Jesus—'God saves'—because he will save his people from their sins."

FALTERED

Following today’s cricket game the Umpire said that it was the best game that he had umpired this season. It was not that there was a high skill level with both teams. In fact we got them out for 67 runs, and past their score loosing eight wickets. What impacted the umpire was the simple enjoyment of the game, even when decisions did not go the fielding teams way.

I am reminded of the Psalmists view of the Children of Israel’s escape from Egypt. How there was an endeavour, which sustained them on the beginning of their journey, in fact no-one faltered.

Well, there was some faltering on our run chase. Four of our batsmen scored a total of 2 runs. That is 2 zeros, and 2 ones.

It is a good reminder, to not falter in the Christian Journey.

Psalm 105:37 (Message)
He led Israel out, their arms filled with loot, and not one among his tribes even stumbled.

OH, NO!!!

"Did you know that according to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, while both male and female reindeer grow antlers in the summer each year, male reindeer drop their antlers at the beginning of winter, usually late November to mid December, while female reindeer retain their antlers till after they give birth in the spring. That is after January some time. Therefore, according to every historical rendition depicting Santa’s reindeer, every single one of them, from Rudolph to Blitzen, had to be a girl. They all still have their antlers - I should’ve known. Only women, while pregnant, would be able to drag a fat man in a redvelvet suit all around the world in one night and not get lost." (Part of article)
Nigel Skeates (Captain) ~ South Australia Division Newsletter.

HEALING

Apparently when my brother was a young boy, he was walking with Mum and Dad, and must have been dragging his feet as he walked. Dad told him to ‘pick up his feet!’ After a little moment, dad looked around to see my brother bending over with his hands around his ankles trying to lift his feet off the ground.

I can recall my father, telling me to ‘open my eyes!’ Obviously I was preoccupied with something, other than what I should have been doing at the time. After a visit to an Optometrist, and an Eye Doctor, I can imagine Dad using their eye drops that dilate the pupils. Then I would be walking around with my eyes wide open!

The prognosis for the small haemorrhage is that everything should settle back to normal. I have another appointment in mid January to check and confirm the healing progress.

John, Peter, Simon, thanks for your prayer.

Acts 10:38 (Message) Then Jesus arrived from Nazareth, anointed by God with the Holy Spirit, ready for action. He went through the country helping people and healing everyone who was beaten down by the Devil. He was able to do all this because God was with him.

SIGHT

Over the last few days I have had a change in one of my eyes. So today was an appointment with an optometrist. The verdict is a small haemorrhage in the back of the eye affecting the retina. So tomorrow, I’m off to a specialist to see what can be done, or a further diagnosis.

Acts 9:8-9 (Message)

WHICH STAR?

Many people count the Christmas Season as the greatest time of the Year. You may be surprised to know that this is not the case for myself. The demands from the community to fix their problems escalate in ways that are very draining.
For many years we burst our bubble trying to meet the community demands. Then a day or two before Christmas Day, start to think about our own Christmas celebrations. Well, I guess that will not change.
I do have great concerns about the commercialization of the Christmas celebration, with no regard to the wonderful provision of God incarnate.
I vehemently object to occult symbols subtily hijacking our Saviour’s birthday celebrations. I would encourage every reader to discard any stars with 5 points. This will not be an easy thing to do, as the community produce them by the truckload, but I believe that the benefits will follow.

Luke 2:11-14 (Message)
A Saviour has just been born in David's town, a Saviour who is Messiah and Master. This is what you're to look for: a baby wrapped in a blanket and lying in a manger."
At once the angel was joined by a huge angelic choir singing God's praises:

Glory to God in the heavenly heights,
Peace to all men and women on earth who please him.

ANGST

Some of the interesting things in life are how we deal with things, particularly as leaders. You may recall instances in your journey through life that caused some angst.

The Songster Leader addresses the Songsters at rehearsal, about the need to be on time for rehearsal. However the latecomers’ still had not arrived. His frustration was vented to those who already supported him, and the ministry in song.

The Staff Officer addresses the Cadets, about the inappropriateness of a full-blown Afro Hair-style and the Uniform, however only two Cadets had their hair in that style.

The Divisional Staff Officer addresses the Officers in a meeting, and comments that only one Officer has the bookwork done appropriately, and on time. The Junior Officers, who looked to the Senior Officers as mentors, were crushed. If their mentors were unsuccessful how could they achieve an appropriate standard of returns, particularly as there had not been any instruction to assist their apparent inappropriateness? When questioned, the Divisional Staff Officer, retracted his statement as being inappropriate.

It is so easy to speak, without thinking of the consequences.

Matthew 5:23-24 (Message)
"This is how I want you to conduct yourself in these matters. If you enter your place of worship and, about to make an offering, you suddenly remember a grudge a friend has against you, abandon your offering, leave immediately, go to this friend and make things right. Then and only then, come back and work things out with God.

POWERFUL

I have just visited the THQ web site and ‘Beyond Connections07’ to revisit the Friday night Worship. This was indeed a powerful night for the Kingdom of God. Commissioner Jim, help us to really ‘connect’, to ‘get it!’ Commencing with some short scenes involving the mobile phone, then the father & son, the husband & wife, the officer preacher & the soldier, Commissioner then brought us to John 15 to get us connected with God.

Now we are in the Beyond Connections07 phase where we can discuss and implement our individual and corporate strategies, to the glory of God.

Lord, help us see all you require of us! Amen.

UNKNOWN

If you don’t know what your missing, how can you find it?

What an amazing journey through a connections-landscape of peoples’ lives. Enabling people to discover what was previously hidden from them.
Through Connections 07, I was introduced to the enthusiastic teaching of Major Alan Harley (R). This was an amazing connection. I had not had the privilege of hearing Major Harley preach. Consequently I was not aware of what I was missing. I am truly grateful to our Leaders and the Connections Committee, who, under the direction of God the Holy Spirit, brought together a variety of connections for the Salvo staff, Soldiers, Friends, and Officers.

What will it look like, when people discover what was previously unknown?

Zech. 8:23 (KJV)
Thus saith the Lord of hosts; In those days it shall come to pass, that ten men shall take hold out of all languages of the nations, even shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying, We will go with you: for we have heard that God is with you.

CONNECTIONS 07

Connections 07, would have to be the best Territorial Event that I have been to. Commencing with Officers Council, and concluding with the Appointments & Sending Out of the newly Commissioned Officers.
With the emphasis on connecting with God, and the community, there were many speakers on a variety of connection points. For myself I attended the following sessions.
How connected are we?
Connecting beyond the prison gate.
Addictive Connections.
Connecting Globally.
Connecting to a Global Vision.
Connecting Responses.
Making Connections Happen.
Kingdom Connections – Worship Experience.
Spiritual Connections.
Connected with The Spirit.
Connecting the Bible and Justice.
Connecting with the Streets.
However, this is just a snippet of what was available to choose from.

All the speakers were excellent. Commissioners James & Carolyn Knaggs lead Connections 07 under the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

Lord, help us to follow your lead in making better connections with our communities. Amen.

ELECTION

Saturday 24th November 2007, Australia voted in the Federal Election. The incumbent Prime Minister (Liberal Party) Mr John Howard, conceded that he had lost Government to the incumbent Opposition Leader (Labor Party) Mr Kevin Rudd.
It also looks likely that Mr Howard will loose his own electorate seat. Mr Howard’s deputy in the Liberal Party Mr Peter Costello (Treasurer) who sort after the leadership of the Liberal Party, and the Prime Ministership, will not run for the leader position in opposition. Many are now questioning the motives of Mr Costello, and his commitment to the Liberal’s, and Australia as a Nation.

This is a reminder to the people of God, that we will be judged, in society by our actions. We cannot afford to leave anything out there that can be used as a weapon against us.

DUST & RAIN

Today we had a dust storm in the middle of the day. A few trees lost some branches, and you had to shield your eyes from the strong wind to keep the dust out. Tonight was a little different with thunder, lightening, and rain showers.

Just for a change there are delicate flowers bursting into bloom.

WORSHIP

Yesterday we gathered together in the afternoon at the Morwell Community Church for our third united worship service for the year. It was a great time of worship with participation from most of the local congregations, and Al’s sharing from the word was encouraging. It was also good to share in prayer in small groups, and I was privileged to sit on the floor with some teenagers who have a heart for God to raise-up this generation for service.

Thank you Lord, for the many blessings received and shared!

INSECTS

This is the season when tiny insects are martyred on the front of the car. The windscreen washer works overtime to keep your vision unimpaired. Also the birds are having a field day as the insects land on the road, and become an easy prey. Mostly the birds fly out of the approaching vehicles path, however there are some that are not quick enough to reach a safe place.

A MOVING DAUGHTER

Sitting on the edge, waiting for the appointed time. Getting a flat to rent is similar to sitting on the edge waiting. Waiting for properties to become available. Waiting for applications to be approved. Waiting for the appropriate phone calls. Waiting for the keys. Waiting for the furniture to arrive.

So much about moving, is actually waiting, waiting, waiting!

John 5:3. (KJV)
In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, holt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.

RESTORATION

Worship times are always interesting, with many things going on at the same time. However yesterday’s worship was a little more interesting than usual. Through all the events and turmoil of the day, still there were those who were receiving a blessing as the Holy Spirit was allowed to do ministry in their lives.

We thank you Lord God, for your continual work of restoration, and regeneration.

Jeremiah prophesied about the Judgement on Judah, but he was a part or the prophecy of restoration.

Jeremiah 32:15 (Message) For God-of-the-Angel-Armies, the God of Israel, says, "Life is going to return to normal. Homes and fields and vineyards are again going to be bought in this country."

BLUE HEELER

Tonight I was talking with a guy whose dog had just died. The Blue Heeler was 13 years old, and his best mate, never far from his side. With sadness in his eyes, he described the past joys of having his best mate by his side.

Eccles. 9:4 (Message)
Still, anyone selected out for life has hope, for, as they say, "A living dog is better than a dead lion."

COMPARISONS

Comparisons are a part of life. We compare the changes in today’s society with the past generations. We look at photos of our selves and think of what was.

I was listening to a lady who told me about the pain and suffering her husband was in prior to his death. Then to see him immediately after the event and see the man she fell in love with. The stresses, wrinkles, pain, and suffering had all gone, and there was the love of her life. What a beautiful moment for a loving couple!

Mark 4:30-32 (KJV)
And he said, Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God? or with what comparison shall we compare it? It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that be in the earth: But when it is sown, it groweth up, and becometh greater than all herbs, and shooteth out great branches; so that the fowls of the air may lodge under the shadow of it.

WHAT?

It is interesting when you view a photograph, and feel something is not right. Perhaps it is simply the observation of body language.

The other day I viewed a photo of the Prime Minister, and the Opposition Leader, together in election mode. I found myself asking the question, ‘Who’s the bully then?’

Matthew 7:15 (Message) "Be wary of false preachers who smile a lot, dripping with practiced sincerity. Chances are they are out to rip you off some way or other. Don't be impressed with charisma; look for character.

THE CUP

Melbourne Cup, the race that stops a Nation.

Today at the Corps it was just a normal day. Commencing first with a visit to the Automotive Mechanic to have the car serviced. No mail delivery, as the Australia Post workers were not working. Some phone calls, then into ‘mainly music’ with the toddlers. Then back to pick up the car. The school opposite the Corps was silent, without students and staff. The phone was silent with no calls, even the Emergency Relief line.

It would seem that the Melbourne Cup, really is the race that stops a Nation. Phone calls stopped, emergencies stopped, demands stopped, school work stopped, work stopped, and I wonder what else stopped?

Will the emergencies increase tomorrow, as the empty-pocketed punters decide that the actually need to pay their bills and also eat?

GARBAGE

Put out the garbage. There is a whole process in our house that culminates in a rubbish truck collecting our garbage to transport it away from our house.

Firstly, each time something is of no use, the specific item is discarded to a waste bin.
Secondly, when the waste bin is almost full, the contents are moved to the council collection bin.
Thirdly, on a specified day, the council bin is wheeled to the street verge for collection by the Council’s rubbish truck.

What process do we have in place to assist in the recognition and removal of our life’s garbage?

The very credentials these people are waving around as something special, I'm tearing up and throwing out with the trash—along with everything else I used to take credit for. And why? Because of Christ. Yes, all the things I once thought were so important are gone from my life. Compared to the high privilege of knowing Christ Jesus as my Master, firsthand, everything I once thought I had going for me is insignificant—dog dung. I've dumped it all in the trash so that I could embrace Christ and be embraced by him. I didn't want some petty, inferior brand of righteousness that comes from keeping a list of rules when I could get the robust kind that comes from trusting Christ—God's righteousness.

SPANISH MotoGP

Moto GP, Valencia Circuit, Spain.

The final round of the 2007 Moto GP held in Spain. Casey Stoner starts on the front row of the grid, with the second fastest practice time behind Pedrosa.

Another brilliant start and Casey is in the lead at the first corner. Casey breaks the 2006 lap record on the second lap.

Stoner & Pedrosa put a gap on the field and Pedrosa hits the front with another lap record on the 5th lap. Pedrosa tries to shake Stoner from his tail, and drives on the ragged edge to get a .8 of a second then 1.03 seconds with 19 laps to go.

14 laps to go and Pedrosa increases his lead to 1.7 seconds, but who will have the best tyre condition at the conclusion of the race.

3 laps to go and Pedrosa leads Stoner by 2.1 seconds.

Throughout the race there are some awesome onboard camera shots.

Pedrosa wins for Honda, and Spain. The win puts Pedrosa in second place for the GP Champianship behind Stoner.

Hebrews 12:1-3 (Message)
Do you see what this means—all these pioneers who blazed the way, all these veterans cheering us on? It means we'd better get on with it. Strip down, start running—and never quit! No extra spiritual fat, no parasitic sins. Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we're in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God—he could put up with anything along the way: cross, shame, whatever. And now he's there, in the place of honour, right alongside God. When you find yourselves flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility he ploughed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls!

SHOWERS

Gentle showers have been watering the dry earth again today. (No cricket!) This is a wonderful rain as there is very little run-off. Hopefully the moisture on the surface will begin to seep into the sub-soil where it is extremely dry.

The oval where we are now practicing, and is our temporary home ground was very green two weeks ago and is now yellow except for some green strips where the drainage pipes are located.

This is now the 7th dry year in a row, and the driest time since 1904. The earth is suffering!

Next week price of bread will rise 50 cents per loaf as the crops have failed, and flour is more expensive.

Psalm 65:9-10 (Message)
Oh, visit the earth; ask her to join the dance!
Deck her out in spring showers; fill the God-River with living water. Paint the wheat fields golden. Creation was made for this! Drench the ploughed fields; soak the dirt clods with rainfall as harrow and rake bring her to blossom and fruit.

BREEZE

Today the sky is filled with clouds and there are gentle waves of rain coming through every-so-often. It is a wonderful day, nice and cool and refreshing.

One person on site has their office at sauna levels, and is missing the real beauty of the day. The fresh wafting of the gentle breeze as it passes over your skin.

There may be times when we miss out on many things as our natural instincts, or humanity take control over us?

Acts 2:1-4 (Message) When the Feast of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Without warning there was a sound like a strong wind, gale force—no one could tell where it came from. It filled the whole building. Then, like a wildfire, the Holy Spirit spread through their ranks, and they started speaking in a number of different languages as the Spirit prompted them.

HUFFERS & PUFFERS

CELEBRATION DAY

A man caught a taxi for his journey, and on the way to his destination he decided to change his destination. Leaning forward the man gently tapped the taxi driver on the shoulder to give the amended directions. At this the taxi veered across the road, over the footpath, and crashed through a white picket fence. Shaken, the man apologised to the taxi driver for distracting him and causing the carnage. To which the taxi driver said he was completely responsible for his own collision. He further informed the man, that it was his first day as a taxi driver, and that for his employment during the last 25 years, he had driven a hearse.

The ‘Huffers and Puffers’ a band of retirees performed at the Home League Celebration day. The concert contained secular sing-along music that the toe-tapping oldies enjoyed immensely. It was a great day!!!

Proverbs 17:22 (Message)
A cheerful disposition is good for your health; gloom and doom leave you bone-tired.

WORK SPACE

Expectations from others, that at an instant you are available to do their every wish. Including wallowing around in rubbish and garbage in your nice clean, neat, clothes. This is very frustrating.

Analyse!! The main problem, as in every place I have been appointed, is insufficient space for staff to work and little or no storage. Whenever something is required, four other things have to happen first, so that space is available.

What does God have to rearrange for Him to have space in my life?

Galatians 2:21 (Message)
I am not going to go back on that.
Is it not clear to you that to go back to that old rule-keeping, peer-pleasing religion would be an abandonment of everything personal and free in my relationship with God? I refuse to do that, to repudiate God's grace. If a living relationship with God could come by rule-keeping, then Christ died unnecessarily.

THINKING TIME

Just catching a few moments after lunch. It is valuable to just sit, rest, and have some time to gather your thoughts. It has been a busy time in one way or another, and it has not ended yet. The Home League Celebration Day is on Wednesday, so that is the next major event to occur. However in thinking ahead we can miss the ordinary/normal events that still need to occur. So a few moments to settle are of great value.

Romans 12:3 (Message)
I'm speaking to you out of deep gratitude for all that God has given me, and especially as I have responsibilities in relation to you. Living then, as every one of you does, in pure grace, it's important that you not misinterpret yourselves as people who are bringing this goodness to God. No, God brings it all to you. The only accurate way to understand ourselves is by what God is and by what he does for us, not by what we are and what we do for him.

Pleasant Sunday Afternoon

It was a great afternoon, and pleasant as well. The Latrobe City Brass Band, with the Morwell Band, Singers, Timbrels, and also special guests Dean & Dayna Roberts, provided well-presented music for the enjoyment of all. Major Gwyn mentioned the “Pencil Philosophy” in her comment.

The afternoon was capped off with a cuppa, and plenty of time to chat.

The priests were all on duty; the choir and orchestra of Levites that David had provided for singing and playing anthems to the praise and love of God were all there; across the courtyard the priests blew trumpets. All Israelites were on their feet.

SUMMER TIME

Tonight the clocks are to be turned forward one hour, as at 2am tomorrow we commence daylight saving or summer time.
It is a great time of year, as we have an extra hour of daylight to enjoy life outdoors.

Proverbs 23:17-18 (Message)
Don't for a minute envy careless rebels; soak yourself in the Fear-of-God—That's where your future lies. Then you won't be left with an armload of nothing.

ELECTION

Federal Election.

In election campaigns there are many promises made by all candidates. One of the areas that I find interesting is what happens in the campaign of the incumbent government. I notice that after 3 years in government, suddenly there is money available to meet many and varied projects, and also taxation relief for individuals.

Is this good government?
Is this vote buying?
Who is more important, the voters or the politician?

Micah 6:8 (Message)
But he's already made it plain how to live, what to do, what God is looking for in men and women.
It's quite simple: Do what is fair and just to your neighbour, be compassionate and loyal in your love, And don't take yourself too seriously—take God seriously.

RAM

One of the interesting, but frustrating, aspects of moving to new appointment is the equipment you find when you arrive. In particular, regarding the multi-media equipment. Whilst I am not an overly computer literate person, I can get by with a general understanding of the basic aspects of computer use.
Having purchased two multi-media computers in other places, I am aware of the major requirement of sufficient RAM for general multi-media operations. We just want to see the face of our multi-media operator on Sunday, as we have increased the computers RAM from 256MB to 1.256GB. We expect a big smile!

James 5:11 (Message)
What a gift life is to those who stay the course! You've heard, of course, of Job's staying power, and you know how God brought it all together for him at the end. That's because God cares, cares right down to the last detail.

SORTING

Today we were sorting some things out which were part of the last financial Year. It is interesting how small things understood differently can have an enormous impact. People all working to the same end, who work in offices 150 km apart, making assumptions that were quite different from each other. Even with modern technology, the human element is still an important link in the system.

The work of the last 3 days has given us an important knowledge base to encourage our site to operate under more efficient processes for the future.

Small adjustments here and there, will be of great value to all the staff, as we endeavour to meet the spiritual and physical needs of our community.

2 Timothy 4:1-2. (JB Phillips)
I solemnly charge you, Timothy, in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus who will judge the living and the dead, by his appearing and his kingdom, to preach the Word of God. Never lose your sense of urgency, in season or out of season. Prove, correct, and encourage, using the utmost patience in your teaching.

Bands

Yesterday we went to Warragul for a band concert. The Salvation Army Household Troops Band from UK, were visiting on their tour. It was a brilliant night, with skilled musicians. All whom I have spoken with, have reported how great they felt with the whole night.
Tonight we had a combined practice with the Latrobe City Brass Band, and our Corps Band in preparation for a pleasant Sunday afternoon on Sunday. Well, all I will say is that the skill level was different from that of the Monday night concert.

REST

Did you have a nice holiday?
Yes!!!

Although after 4 days it’s hard to remember. Take yesterday for an example. We left home at 7am to journey to Melbourne, concluded the 3 things that had to be done, got back to the office for 2pm, I had cricket training at 4.45pm, Singers Practice at 7pm, Band rehearsal at 8pm, and 9.30pm thought about some tea. Well, nothing unusual really!

Yes it was a good rest, and we were able to catch up with some folk and hear about their journey over the past year.

SOLDIER FIRST

I have read some comments lately about the role and abilities of officers within The Salvation Army. Most seem to elevate the role of an officer to a position supremely above that of a soldier. Officership is a role that can only be filled in response to the call of God on the person. For myself, after some years of rejection, and rebellion, the time came when there was surrender to the deep ache in my spirit, this then culminated in a deep peace. Rightly or wrongly, I see myself as a soldier first, who fulfils the role of an officer. Each soldier or officer has a specific giftedness, and abilities, which are unique to the body of believers. Can we celebrate the diversity of the body, without making pedestals, and categories, and boxes to restrict our individual roles?

2 Timothy 2:20 (JB Phillips)

SUCCESS

The journey to Wonthaggi was a partial success, as the actual grave of William James Rowe was not located, however we found some other people to search out.

With the MotoGP at Philip Island this weekend the roads were filled with motorcycles heading to the big race. There is great expectation for the race as the Australian, Casey Stoner, the new world champion will be muscling his machine around the circuit. I also, desire that Casey have further success.

TO-DO LIST

Today, flexibility and mature age are poles apart. It seemed an appropriate time at the end of furlough to do some things that have been on the to-do list since we arrived in January. One was setting up our satellite dish, this happened to be today’s job to complete. Well, it’s up with 99% signal strength. The journey through the roof cavity proved to be rather strenuous, as the flexibility of my youth has disappeared somewhere.

Following this theme, it must follow that we tick of another item, to visit Wonthaggi Cemetery to find the grave of William James Rowe, who died on 14th December 1937, aged 85.

What a journey, from youth to the grave!

2 Tim. 2:22 (Message)
Run away from infantile indulgence. Run after mature righteousness—faith, love, peace—joining those who are in honest and serious prayer before God.

THE SEEKER

Today we went to the movies. The movie we saw was ‘The Seeker ~ The Dark is Rising’. It was an enjoyable movie where the main character had to collect a number of items to have the strength to be victorious.

There may be times when we set our sites on collecting things, rather than being the person we were created to be.

Ephes. 2:10 (Message)
No, we neither make nor save ourselves. God does both the making and saving. He creates each of us by Christ Jesus to join him in the work he does, the good work he has gotten ready for us to do, work we had better be doing.

GROWING

I find it encouraging and refreshing to sit under the ministry of others as they share their understanding of God’s word. ACC was one of these great times of encouragement and refreshment. There were also times of challenge, which was the Holy Spirit confirming that the biblical teaching was in line with God’s will.

I see this situation quite differently from those who sit in meetings where the Word of God is shared, with an attitude of “bless me if you can”. We are all called to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. (2 Peter 3:18) It is the ministry of the Holy Spirit to reveal Jesus Christ and his teaching to us as individuals. (John 15:26) There are those who sit in worship and want everyone else to be responsible for their inability to grow and develop in Christ. Having just enough religion to be miserable. They need CHRIST to make them joyful.

Jeremiah 31:33-34 (Message)
"This is the brand-new covenant that I will make with Israel when the time comes. I will put my law within them—write it on their hearts!—and be their God. And they will be my people. They will no longer go around setting up schools to teach each other about God. They'll know me firsthand, the dull and the bright, the smart and the slow. I'll wipe the slate clean for each of them. I'll forget they ever sinned!" God's Decree.

CONFUSED

Have you ever been confused?

The answer must surely be yes! Being confused is part of the natural mental process of growth and development as human beings. For some whose brains are wired a little differently, it may be an occurrence that happens more frequently. This is not right or wrong, good or bad, but a simple reality.

I recall a time when, in Primary School, a survey form was handed out, to be filled-in with the assistance of our parents. One of the survey questions was, “Are you a breast fed baby?” I thought that I had the answer, NO, but I asked mum for assurance, and she agreed that my answer was correct. I then wished to understand the question more fully, to which mum explained that it meant being fed from the breast. I knew that I was right because I did not have a scare in my chest where the feeding tube was placed to give me the nutrients required to grow. I was able to eat normally like every body else.

Now that you have regained your composure, got up off the floor, and dried your eyes, I admit I was very confused. The subjects of bodily functions were not normal topics for discussion or conversation in our home in the 50’s. Thus I had little information to assist in my decision-making.

Do we communicate the Love of Christ to children and adults, in a way that minimizes the possibility of confusion?

Matthew 19:14 (Message)
But Jesus intervened: "Let the children alone, don't prevent them from coming to me. God's kingdom is made up of people like these."

ACC07 ~ OTHERS
Commissioner Jim Knaggs ~ Friday 5th October

I Have a Dream . . . That one day . . .

The Salvation Army will in it’s entirety, be what God wants it to be . . .

. . .that every soldier, young and old would be sanctified through and through . . . and out of the passion of their love in Christ, would be an undeniable force for God’s love in the world.

. . .that this love would be seen between each soldier to demonstrate that God has sent His Son into the world not to condemn it, but that the world through Him might be saved. . . and by this would all people know that we are His followers and represent Him.

. . .that our love would be seen through intentional and overt acts of mercy and justice, all the while in humility before God, not needing to publish our works, only doing them to glorify God.

. . .that our mission would have such integrity that every expression of our ministry would be marked not so much by a red shield or even a crest, but by the love of God for people.

. . .that our corps would embrace the gospel for everyone in their community, not discriminating by culture, language, social status, or age. . .and that the helping ministries would be woven into the fabric so that even under a nuclear microscope we could not distinguish between spiritual and social.

. . .that every social programme would be inviting to any one in need to be helped towards eternal affect, still maintaining our resolve to dispense such love indiscriminately and unconditionally. . .and that their connections with the corps ministries become seamless to the point that they would become a type of corps in their own right.

. . .that we would have effective ministries to eradicate homelessness, human trafficking, prostitution, and other indecencies currently common in our society.

. . .that the social programme strategy will be based upon the needs of people in the context of Biblical mandate, not necessarily the offerings of government contracts.

. . .that headquarters support units would be understood as such, not diminishing their purposes for accountability, but wholly in the context of authentic support and encouragement.

. . .that programmes such as Salvo Stores and Employment Plus would also become saving stations for the lost and fully integrated into the mission of the territory.

. . .that Salvo Stores and the Trade become responsible outlets for Fair trade goods.

. ..that our commercial department at THQ become a resource and focal point for facilitating our increasing efforts in Fair Trade.

. . .that the Family Tracing Service be expanded to find those souls who have been lost to the Army, assisting in bringing them home, where they belong.

. . .that we would never have another day in our existence where someone was not brought to Christ.

. . .that our soldiers roll would only be an increasing reality as would our worship and discipleship meetings.

. . .that the proliferation of new ministry openings would be so common and normal that we would have to appoint personnel just to keep track of it, most often after the fact.

. . .that those gifted with creative ministry gifts would have every opportunity to employ those very skills in the work of the Army.

. . .that our worship would be filled with creative means to celebrate God’s provisions and presence among us.

. . .that our 24/7 Prayer Initiatives will be adopted by individual corps throughout the territory all the time.

. . .that we would establish Lighthouses of Prayer to cover our neighbourhoods with grace.

. . .that we would have numerous prayer destinations where people could go for prayer retreats, learning opportunities and resources.

. . .that our systems would be less restrictive and more imaginative to accommodate the new things God wants to do among us.

. . .that as a movement, we would be marked by holiness in corporate and individual praxis.

. . .that there would be such an out pouring of the Spirit upon us that we would be courageous and effective witnesses in our families, communities, cities, Australia and the world.

. . .that our compassion would be large enough to be understood as authentically global throughout what we do at home and abroad.

. . .that our people would be quick to respond to the voice of God for whatever He calls them to.

. . .that our officer training programmes would be taxed by the unusual response of the called to serve as officers in TSA.

. . .that our local officers would be so empowered to understand their foundational role in the corps ministries and fully embrace the priesthood of all believers.

. . .that our women would have appointments and responsibilities commensurate with their gifts, abilities and experience.

. . .that our young people would be filled with the Spirit and recognised as contributors in the fight.

. . .that our children would be welcomed as authentic soldiers with proper opportunities to celebrate the presence of Christ in their lives and in their environments.

. . .that an extraordinary forgiveness and healing of past sins and hurts would prevail upon all people victimised by our practises and inattention.

. . .that God would see that we love Him supremely through Christ and that our reliance on the Holy Spirit completes His hope in us.

. . .that God would see that we love Him absolutely and we expressing our love for Him by our active love for others.

I'M BACK

Back again!
I have been away from home for three weeks, and have not had any Internet connection. So there is a lot of catching up to do.

A few weeks ago, I was talking with my uncle who is an elderly man of God. He spoke of the wonder and joy of growing and developing in his faith, as a believer, and follower of the way. His life is one of continual development and growth, under the influence of God the Holy Spirit. Praise the Lord!!!

This last week was spent at the Aggressive Christianity Conference held at the Box Hill Corps. This was a fantastic way of being spiritually fed during furlough. The speakers were inspiring and challenging, the worship uplifting, and it was a great week for the Kingdom of God. It was my first time at ACC, and I was personally surprised that each day I awoke unaided around 5.15am to get ready for the day, as I am not a morning person. The conference was a time where many have set their sights on moving forward as true ambassadors for Christ. Next year ACC will be Sept. 30th to Oct. 3rd 2008. Put it in your diaries now!

Ephes. 3:16-19 (Message)
I ask him to strengthen you by his Spirit—not a brute strength but a glorious inner strength—that Christ will live in you as you open the door and invite him in. And I ask him that with both feet planted firmly on love, you'll be able to take in with all Christians the extravagant dimensions of Christ's love. Reach out and experience the breadth! Test its length! Plumb the depths! Rise to the heights! Live full lives, full in the fullness of God.

YUM & YUM!

Tonight we had another good training night at the Cricket Club. Although it was cut a little shot as I had to be at Band rehearsal at 7pm. I managed to get to rehearsal with 7 minutes to spare. This was another fine achievement in the organizing of the time management side of things.
Training may be a little interesting this year; our two Ovals are to be refurbished. The heavy machinery has moved in and has commenced removing the top layer of grass and soil. When they arrive at the practice area we will be practising at another facility.

My wife cooked some beef vindaloo, which I had with rice for tea after rehearsal. It was hot and delicious. Yum!!!

Talking about Yum, checkout Maya’s Cinnamon Raisin Challah, 23rd August 2007. It looks delicious, and if you want to know how to do the braiding, you will find on the left of the blog a Section: Watch My Video, which has a Utube, Braiding a 6 Strand Challah. This is very easy to follow. You will find this and more at the site;

Happy, 5768.

Deut. 30:15-16 (Message)
Look at what I've done for you today: I've placed in front of you

Life and Good
Death and Evil.

DO YOU SEE

At the office we have a challenge each week. It is all to do with speed, and observation. After the publications are put out for the Corps, then the challenge is on, as a copy of the War Cry is handed out, the concentration levels peak, adrenalin kicks in and those with a competitive streak, go for it.
The challenge is to locate ‘Tum-Tum’ who is hiding in the War Cry. The editor has had him in some sneaky places, where he is hard to find. In one publication Tum-Tum was found in two places, how sneaky is that!!!
He has been in crowds, shopping centres, on TV, in prison, in pockets, on pockets, etc. This week he is a …….. (sorry editor, I nearly spilt the beans).

Matthew 9:1-2 (KJV)
And he entered into a ship, and passed over, and came into his own city. And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy; Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee.

NEW SOLDIER

On Sunday we added another Senior Soldier to the Corps. A lady who had been a soldier in her teens, has now returned, and renewed her Covenant and has been Sworn-in as a Senior Soldier.

It was arranged for the Swearing-in to be on the 10th September, a few months ago. This was one of those special days that are God designed. Firstly was the days’ subject, Total Commitment, and secondly the Generals Pastoral Letter ‘Covenant’.

Monday, I had a stress test that was an hour and ten min. later than the appointment time. Came through the experience with flying colours, and am proud of myself. This was followed by an evening Corps Council meeting that was very profitable.

CROSSING THE ROAD

The 52-year-old accountant from Sydney's north shore was released on bail yesterday, after being unable to speak with his family and lawyer, The Sun-Herald reported.
Mr McLeay, who has three children, said he spent the night in a city police cell with an ice addict before facing charges of assault and resisting arrest via video link at Parramatta Bail court.
In the video footage Mr McLeay can be heard trying hard to explain to the officers that he was just attempting to protect his glasses.
He also told ninemsn reporters at the scene that he was only "walking down to have lunch".
"I crossed the road. That's all," Mr McLeay said. Police then prevented ninemsn from filming as they took Mr McLeay to a secure zone under the Westin Hotel.
Mr McLeay's wife, Sophie, told The Sun Herald she was not allowed to speak with him because of APEC.
"The children are traumatised. We spent the night sleeping together on the sofa. How does walking to yum cha with your 11-year-old son end up with 22 hours in jail and no access to a lawyer," she said.
Mr McLeay told the newspaper he had astigmatism, which made it difficult to see without his glasses.
He said the worst thing about the situation was that it had happened in front of his son.
"You want your children to grow up respecting police but how can they when they see this kind of thing?" he said.
"I was just crossing the road. Never have I felt so mortified, embarrassed and invaded. I feel violated."
During APEC, police have been given authority to arrest people and hold them until the summit is over.
Magistrate Kevin Flack granted Mr McLeay $1000 bail when he faced court yesterday, on the condition that he not enter the 3km APEC exclusion zone in the CBD until Monday morning.
The police prosecutor asked for bail to be refused under the special APEC powers, saying Mr McLeay had a second assault charge outstanding against him.
A police spokesman said he could not discuss the matter as it would soon face court, but said police would issue a statement later in the day. A spokesman for Parramatta Bail Court said Mr McLeay would face Downing Centre on September 25.
Matthew 2:16-18 Herod, when he realized that the scholars had tricked him, flew into a rage. He commanded the murder of every little boy two years old and under who lived in Bethlehem and its surrounding hills. (He determined that age from information he'd gotten from the scholars.) That's when Jeremiah's sermon was fulfilled: A sound was heard in Ramah, weeping and much lament. Rachel weeping for her children, Rachel refusing all solace, Her children gone, dead and buried. DANGER

This last week some people have found themselves in difficulty with the authorities for having a mock motorcade in Sydney. A statement by a senior police officer said that the snipers set up around the area were under instructions to ‘shoot to kill’, is a disturbing revelation for our country.
Whether you agree with the motorcade stunt or not, there are some frightening realities that are being revealed.
a. We are joining a worldview that life has little value.
b. Violence and destruction are acceptable at any cost.
c. One people group is better than another.
d. Christ like values, are to be disregarded.

It is time for Christ's people to make a stand!

2 Cor. 12:10 (KJV)
Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

Tonight was the first training session that I have been able to attend. Yes, that’s right, it’s preseason cricket training. It was a good session for an hour and fifteen minutes. I managed to get through my laps, catching, bowling, and batting, without to much difficulty. I felt good after training, but will have some tender muscles tomorrow.

Following the cricket training was Singers practice, and then Band rehearsal. Sitting still was not such a good thing after the first training run.

Matthew 13:52 (Message) He said, "Then you see how every student well-trained in God's kingdom is like the owner of a general store who can put his hands on anything you need, old or new, exactly when you need it."

THE LEADER

Many millions of dollars are being spent on security measures for the safety of visiting World Leaders who are here in Australia. Are these measures over the top? Streets, have been closed, security fences have been erected, snipes are positioned, air support is in place, etc… One of those present is called the “Leader of the free world”, a title which in my thinking is not appropriate for any human.

I reflect on the one who is the true “Leader of the Free World”, and whose leadership, is founded in vulnerability, and servant hood. No massive military support, no armed guard, no legion of angels destroying those in opposition to him. If this then is the way of the King of the Universe, the Ruler of the Mighty Angel Armies, where does man get off on, NOT BEING VULNERABLE!

Luke 2:26-35 (Message)
The Holy Spirit had shown him that he would see the Messiah of God before he died. Led by the Spirit, he entered the Temple. As the parents of the child Jesus brought him in to carry out the rituals of the Law, Simeon took him into his arms and blessed God:

God, you can now release your servant;
release me in peace as you promised.
With my own eyes I've seen your salvation;
it's now out in the open for everyone to see:
A God-revealing light to the non-Jewish nations,
and of glory for your people Israel.

Jesus' father and mother were speechless with surprise at these words. Simeon went on to bless them, and said to Mary his mother,

This child marks both the failure and
the recovery of many in Israel,
A figure misunderstood and contradicted—
the pain of a sword-thrust through you—
But the rejection will force honesty, as God reveals who they really are.

FLOWERS

The days are getting longer, with the warmth of the sun being a real benefit. What a joy it is to just stand in the sunshine and feel the warmth.
It is now Spring and there are some joys in observing the garden of a new house, to see what the previous tenants have planted. The dormant bulbs spring into life, and produce their amazing flowers of surprise. The simple joy of an amazing flower, gently opening its petals toward the suns’ warming rays. The new blooms are delicate, fragrant, colourful, and joyous, in their spontaneous display of new and abundant life.

IMPORTANT

Another busy, busy, day with much to be done, and little time to do it. It seems that it is on these days that there are many interruptions to the desired plan of attack. With two volunteers not being available to do their important task in the Emergency Relief area, this had to be covered by an Officer. With an already tight schedule, and not being at the peak of physical performance this was an added burden that we could have done without.
There are many interesting aspects to ministry such as this, however it is in these times, that the important life issues come to the fore.

FATHERS DAY

Fathers Day. A day in which there are different emotions expressed by different people. Today our people remembered and expressed their appreciation of, their Fathers and those who have also been Father figures to them.

Chocolate frogs were available, to remind the Fathers to:
Fully Rely On God.

For our Heavenly Father it is Fathers Day everyday.

As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. (KJV)

A NEW THING

A little while back, I received an advertising card from a business in another town. The heading captured my attention, “Something Brand New is Happening in . . . . . .” Immediately I thought of the Scriptures.

Isaiah 43:18-19
Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. (KJV)

I am reminded of Glen, or more commonly known as “Rags” a young man who did his apprenticeship in the same factory as me, and we were in the same section for some time. He mixed with the Bikie guys and led a pretty rough life. He then became a follower of Christ, what a transformation. One of his amazing comments was that he could always tell who the believers were by looking into their eyes. Having spent so much time with people who were living a hollow existence, he could tell those who had hope in their lives because he could see hope in their eyes.

Lord, continue to do a new thing in peoples’ lives.

TODAY

I have had a very interesting day where many good things, and important things have been happening.

Firstly, there was the morning tea with the Ministers, where there was a great freedom in sharing, and concluded with prayer. If you are not in the know, we meet in a public place so the community can see the Ministers operating in unity, and supporting each other. This is such a vital aspect of ministry, that I would not miss it.

Secondly, was a visit to the Jumble Shed and see the staff in their environment, all were resplendent in their new Uniform Aprons.

Thirdly, receiving the supplies for the Emergency Relief distribution pantry.

Fourthly, setup a room for the Divisional, Regional Emergency Relief Staff Meeting.

Fifthly, had some fish for lunch. Delicious!!!!

Sixthly, had an opportunity to present the Gospel, and lead in a prayer of confession.

Seventhly, try all day to finalize some pressing administration requirements.

Eighthly, organize tea, chicken & vegies. Yum!!

Then there is Band rehearsal later tonight.

Matthew 22:37
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. (KJV)

VOICE

In recent years I have had the privilege of only doing 50% of the Preaching and Worship Leading. Although at one appointment I preached twice every second Sunday Morning. The last two Sundays I have had to do the bulk of the speaking. There are joys’ as I do love to share from God’s Word. However my voice has become husky, with the added use. To add to this, the last two mainly music sessions, were added into the mix also. A blessing is the bass notes are a little lower, and easier to produce. Some would say that a husky voice has its own special appeal.

Well there is still much to be done, and a lot of speaking to be done in the normal run of things. So the moments when I can be quiet are very precious, and soothing.

Psalm 95:7-8 (KJV)
For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. To day if ye will hear his voice, Harden not your heart, as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness:

I'm Set Apart For Jesus

I have many favourite songs that I love to sing. Some of them are from the pen of William James Pearson (1832 – 92), whose ministry and preaching, I think that I would have enjoyed sitting under. This last Sunday we sang one of his songs in worship. What a joy, and encouragement, for the believer!

I’m set apart for Jesus,
To be a king and priest;
His life in me increases,
Upon his love I feast.
From evil separated,
Made holy by his blood,
My all is consecrated
Unto the living God.

I’m set apart for Jesus,
His goodness I have seen,
He makes my heart his altar,
He keeps his temple clean.
Our union none can sever,
Together every hour,
His life is mine for ever
With resurrection power.

I’m set apart for Jesus,
With him to ever stay,
My spirit he releases,
He drives my foes away.
He gives full strength for trial
And shields when darts are hurled;
With him and self-denial
I overcome the world.
(W J Pearson)

1 Peter 2:9 (Message)
But you are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God's instruments to do his work and speak out for him, to tell others of the night-and-day difference he made for you—

PRAYER

Have you thought of personalizing Scripture when you use it in your time of Prayer? A section of a prayer that Paul prayed, and wrote to the Church at Ephesus, is a good example to personalize. Try praying this personalized prayer, twice each day, and see what blessings will follow.

Eph 3:14 For this reason I kneel before my Father,
Eph 3:15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name.
Eph 3:16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen me with power through his Spirit in my inner being,
Eph 3:17 so that Christ may dwell in my heart through faith.

DAD'S ARMY

Having recently added an extra year to the time I have spent on earth as we measure time. I received a voucher to spend. This was not an easy thing as the choices were enormous. I firstly narrowed the choice to British Comedy. Then there was still the choice of which Comedy. My final choice was ‘Dad’s Army’ series 1, 4, 5, & 6.

A group of British volunteers from a variety of positions in the local city are enrolled into the Home Guard Volunteers in WWII.
The local Bank Manager and self-proclaimed Commander of this volunteer regiment of ‘Dad’s Army’ is Captain Mainwaring who had a history of previously serving over seas in 1919. When challenged about the validity of his service as the conflict concluded in 1918, Captain Mainwaring retorted, ‘well someone had to put the place back together!’

Acts 6:8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people. (KJV)
