Sleep, Movie, Soup

Saturday is our day off. Had a sleep in this morning, which was nice and relaxing. Then we went to vote, followed by some shopping. After lunch we went to a Movie ~ Narnia – Prince Caspian. Did about an hours work, then made some soup ~ Barley & Veggie Soup, which is cooking at the moment.

Looking forward to Worship in the morning, as a mature lady will be Sworn-in as a Soldier in The Salvation Army.

Judges 6:18-19 (NIV)
Please do not go away until I come back and bring my offering and set it before you." And the LORD said, "I will wait until you return." Gideon went in, prepared a young goat, and from an ephah of flour he made bread without yeast. Putting the meat in a basket and its broth in a pot, he brought them out and offered them to him under the oak.

Tennis

Tennis at Wimbledon! What a great sight to see, the players at full flight, returning balls that would whistle past me, if I saw them at all. The player’s court coverage, the combined powerful and also the deft shots, all add up to a marvellous spectacle.

1 Chronicles 18:1 (NIV)
In the course of time, David defeated the Philistines and subdued them, and he took Gath and its surrounding villages from the control of the Philistines.

Bi-Election

On Saturday we will be going to vote in a Federal bi-election. The sitting Member, who was re-elected just a few months ago, left office after he was no longer part of the Federal Governing Party. If you stand as a candidate and are re-elected, surely you should continue to fulfil the trust implied by the electors. Elections are an expensive exercise and this one could have been avoided.

Psalms 118:8-9 (NIV)
It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in man.
It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in princes.

The King's Musicians

It was a busy, but fruitful, weekend. Musicians from Gippsland gathered together to rehearse under the leadership of Major Mark Bearcroft. Saturday afternoon was rehearsal at Morwell Corps, and Sunday was an afternoon concert at Warragul Corps where the vocal and brass pieces were performed. The big vocal number was the anthem “A Song of Praise”, and the brass enjoyed a Barrie Gott arrangement of “The lord’s Prayer”.

Psalms 96:1-3 (NIV)
Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth. Sing to the LORD, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvellous deeds among all peoples.

Pass By

People are so interesting, that sitting in a Mall or Shopping Centre and observing life pass by, is as good as going to the Movies.

Luke 18:35-38 (NIV)
As Jesus approached Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening. They told him, "Jesus of Nazareth is passing by." He called out, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!"

HEALING

Jesus came to bring us healing (and deliverance) on every level of our being – physical, emotional and spiritual – through the power of the Holy Spirit. As Peter summed up Christ’s ministry: “God had anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power, and because God was with him, Jesus went about doing good and curing all who had fallen into the power of the devil” (Acts 10:38, JB).
This teaching is central to the Gospel; it is not a side issue. But over the centuries a lively belief in healing prayer was taken away, not only by the enemies of Christianity, but, surprisingly, by Christians themselves. We are not dealing with villains here but good, even holy leaders who nearly killed Christian healing; the monks, for instance, fled to the desert (ca. A.D. 400) to escape the sinful cities and then refused, in the name of humility, to pray for the sick.
As a result, by the opening of the twentieth century healing prayer had largely disappeared from the mainline historic Church. This has been a tragic loss: The full expression of Jesus’ main ministry has, by and large, remained lost to the traditional centres of Christianity.

Work

Today was another long day. Much was accomplished in the area of administration, so that was satisfying. All the accounts are entered into the accounts database up to and including today. Having not done accounts for over a year, it has taken a little reading to get back up to speed. The best solution is to do the entries as you go.

I noticed today that the moon is almost full, but I’m not sure if it just before, or just after being full. Ah, the wonder of creation.

Psalms 8:3-5 (NIV)
When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honour.

ROD

Yesterday I conducted the Funeral Service for Mr. Rodney Desmond Dent. Over the past year and a half I have had many occasions where our paths have met. Rod was found deceased in his flat, just twenty days short of his 66 birthday.
I will miss my encounters with Rod. Rod would come seeking an answer to a question, or sometimes it was so I could pray for him, other times he would come into our hall to pray alone.

Rod’s Sister was pleasantly surprised at the number of people who came to the Funeral Service, and there was lots of chatting done over a cuppa.

John 14:1-6 (NIV)
"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going." Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?" Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Blessings

I do enjoy my breakfast each day. It is a simple routine that is the same each day when I am at home. Commencing with tomato juice, porridge, 2 slices of multigrain toast with vegemite, then concluding with a mug of black coffee (unsweetened). The small pleasures of life are really an amazing blessing.

Psalms 117:1-2 (NIV)
Praise the LORD, all you nations; extol him, all you peoples. For great is his love toward us, and the faithfulness of the LORD endures forever. Praise the LORD.

Core Beliefs

Out of all the responses and reactions that humans have, the most powerful is the response that comes from their core belief systems. This may in fact be quite different to the things that they tell other people. Whilst sharing their abundance of head knowledge they may seem to have everything together until a crisis arises, then the central core beliefs will kick in and be the main controlling influence. When our core beliefs and head knowledge agree, then our responses will not surprise us.

Proverbs 23:7 (KJV)
For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.

Rear-vision Mirror

In the rear-vision mirror is a world of the past and the present. On the one hand there are all those things that have been past, and left behind. While on the other hand, there are things happening in the present as you observe them. What an amazing contrast of events we observe in the rear-vision mirror.

Today as I was driving on a section of highway with a speed limit of 100 kph, I went through a digital speed indicator that checked your speed. The readout on the large display as I went under it was exactly 100. I felt really pleased with myself, as I was travelling at the maximum legal speed for that section of road. The view in the rear-vision mirror revealed the many vehicles that were closing the gap between us before they passed by and I was in their rear-vision mirror.

James 1:22 (NIV)
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
