Today has been a musical day.
Firstly we had our ‘mainly music’ group in the morning. That is pre-schoolers and their parent/guardian. This is always an exciting time as each week the growth in their co-ordination skills is quite evident. A highlight today was getting a high-five from a shy little girl.
Secondly this afternoon, a group of retired musicians from around Melbourne, who formed a brass band called “The Huffers & Puffers”, were performing at the Musical Village at Darnum. Their average age of 70+ was a little reduced as Gwyn assisted on the 1st Cornet bench, and I filled in on EEb Bass. Their numbers were a little down with hip replacements, surgery, dental & medical appointments, so George who comes to our Corps put out an SOS, and we were able to assist. It was a solid blow for an hour and a half, playing about 18 pieces which were all sight reading for me.
Psalms 33:1-3 (NIV)
Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him. Praise the LORD with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre. Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy.
