Ruth Tracy (1870 – 1960) wrote the following song.
Lord, thou art questioning: Lovest thou me?
Yea, Lord, thou knowest, my answer must be;
But since love’s value is proved by love’s test,
Jesus, I’ll give thee the dearest and best.
Down at thy feet all my fears I let go,
Back on thy strength all my weakness I throw;
Lord, in my life thou shalt have thine own way,
Speak but the word, and thy child will obey.
There is no sense of brashness or bravado in these words, just a sense of the quiet soul, seeking a deeper communion, and relationship with God himself.
At times I enjoy some good head-banging music that really thumps. At other times I want to be quiet a gently respond as the Holy Spirit does his regenerating work in my life. Just because I am quiet, does not mean that my life has a lesser sense of God’s presence. It can be appropriate just to sit and enjoy God’s presence, without uttering a word.
Questions, questions, our lives are built around questions. As a believer questions can lead to great consolidations of faith. I’m not referring to questions that take us away into unbelief, but questions that build our relationship with God himself.
Where is God in this?
Luke 23:8-9 (Msg.)
Herod was delighted when Jesus showed up. He had wanted for a long time to see him, he'd heard so much about him. He hoped to see him do something spectacular. He peppered him with questions. Jesus didn't answer—not one word.
